Sadness VS Depression

Sadness VS Depression

People who have never dealt with depression think it's just being sad or being in a bad mood. That's not what depression is for me; it's falling into a state of greyness and numbness. — Dan Reynolds

Sadness and depression are known words among us. Most of us get confused with these two words. Sadness and depression have two different meanings. It is important to identify those words to live a healthy life.

Sadness is one of the basic emotions of a human. Happiness and sadness are a part of our daily life where the moods change according to the different situations. We feel this emotional state when we are unhappy. We might be sad when a particular situation is painful, disappointing, pressurizing, or upsetting.

Depression is a broad topic to cover in psychology, which is continuous and last for a long time, but the sadness is short and temporary. Depression is an illness. People get depressed due to the continuation of sadness for a long period. Most people were under depression during the pandemics due to a lack of income and freedom to go out and spend time.

It is essential to identify the mental state of the people close to us if we really care for them. Most teenagers do not have a good relationship with their parents because they neglect their children's mental needs due to the past experiences of the parents.

Symptoms

It is important to understand the difference between sadness and depression to identify the effect of those symptoms on your life and consult to overcome it if continues for more than two weeks.

We can identify the depression state due to the below-mentioned symptoms:

  • Continuously feeling sad or having an empty mindset.
  • Feel hopeless.
  • Feel helpless.
  • Feel worthless or guilty.
  • Be restless or get irritated.
  • Be not interested in the activities which gave happiness in the past.
  • Feel less energetic.
  • Difficult to concentrate, remember or make decisions.
  • Lack of motivation.
  • Oversleep or awake early morning.
  • Gain weight or lose weight.
  • Think about death or suicide.

Prevention is better than cure, so it is better to identify the signs and change the situation by seeking help if required.

Reasons for Depression

There are many reasons for the cause of depression, due to genetic issues or environmental factors. There is no specific age or gender to get depressed. The reasons why children get depression might be different from those of adults or can be similar reasons due to varying situations and experiences.

  • Lead a life with stressful events.
  • Poor self-esteem.
  • Gender
  • Weak social support system
  • Chronic health condition
  • Imbalance in the brain chemistry.
  • Experience trauma.
  • History of mental health conditions.
  • Lack of nutrients.
  • Substance use.
  • Family history of mental illness.

How to diagnose?

Remember that you are not alone in such a situation.

It is always good to make the surrounding with true friends to share your happiness and sadness. Having more fake friends is better than having a friend throughout life. In my opinion, problems and good memories must be shared with a true friend to live a happy life. A real friend will be there always in any situation in life. It is true that all the problems will not be sorted at once, but the mind gets relief from the frustration. It is important to show the emotions outside without hiding which may cause an imbalance in mental health.

If the problem continues it is better to consult a doctor to identify the problem and the solution. If you expect a solution from the doctor, you need to speak the truth.

The doctor uses different techniques to identify the problem by having a discussion by following some of the below techniques:

  • Depression is treated by Antidepressants or talk therapy as the medications.
  • Psychotherapy will be another therapy given for depression.
  • Change in lifestyle.

What Is Positive Thinking? 🤔

What Is Positive Thinking? 🤔 We all have heard about the word "positive". The word is not new to us. What is inside is the most important. We all go through ups and downs throughout our life. No one will get a problem-free life. We may get problems due to family, education, work, or the environment.  We get a lot of problems, so, we need to handle them. Always remember that these problems are not permanent to us. They come like a sudden rain and then vanish. We cannot escape from a problem without finding a solution to it. Sometimes the found solution may be wrong but try again till you find a proper solution. If a problem is a huge thing, we may give up and build negative thinking on it.  The first thing to remember, you are not the first person to suffer from these problems. Some people have already had the same problem, and they have found a solution. People to people approaching a problem may differ. It is because their thought process is different. Come out of the nega
